7 Reasons to Visit Dunster: A Hidden Gem in England
Welcome back to We Visit Villages, where we explore the hidden gems and enchanting hamlets of England. Our journey continues with a recount of the third day of my pilgrimage, as I ventured from Porlock to the captivating village of Dunster.
Leaving Porlock: The Coastal Trail Challenge
As the sun rose on the third day of my pilgrimage, I left the quaint village of Porlock, taking the scenic yet challenging coast trail towards Dunster. The trail was breathtaking, with panoramic views of the rugged coastline and the rolling hills of Exmoor National Park. Despite the beauty, the path was difficult, testing my physical abilities and resilience. But the promise of reaching Dunster, one of my favourite villages in England, kept my spirits high and my feet moving forward.
Arrival in Dunster: A Warm Welcome at Yarn Market Hotel
After a demanding trek, I arrived in Dunster and found accommodation at the delightful Yarn Market Hotel. The hotel’s cosy atmosphere and prime location near the historic Yarn Market made it the perfect retreat. Antony, the affable manager, greeted me warmly, recognizing me from a recent article in the local newspaper. To my surprise and immense gratitude, he waived my extra fees, offering his support for my pilgrimage. Such kindness is rare and deeply humbling.

Strolling through Dunster’s narrow, winding streets is a delight. The village is home to an array of independent shops, cafes, and traditional inns.
