A Stunning Village and the Outdoors of the Peak District

We decided to visit the Peak District for two weekends in a row.

For us, the Peak District is about a 1h 40min drive, not such a long distance considering we both love driving.

We always travel to the Peak District and come back the same day.

We did the same thing for the last two weekends.

This time, I’ll describe our day around Monsal Head: a loop trail.

The trail is a moderate walk that starts from the stunning village of Ashford-in-the-Water and finishes in the same place.

As always, we downloaded our trail from the @alltrails app and started our walk around 12 pm.

The village seems very popular, as we struggled to find a parking spot. Even though there’s a small car park in the middle of the village, we couldn’t find a space due to the warm and sunny weather that attracted many outdoor enthusiasts.

The trail we followed today was easy for us, perhaps because we’re accustomed to walking. Several sections of the trail can become quite slippery, especially after or during a rainy day.

The views are spectacular, and the walks through the forest are breathtaking.

It took us about 2 hours and 45 minutes to complete the walk, with only a few stops.

On our way back, we took the time to explore the village, which seemed less crowded.

A meal at the local pub was a must since we were quite hungry.

The village is known for quarrying Ashford Black Marble, a dark limestone used as decorative marble.

The packhorse bridge, dating from the 17th century, was a beautiful sight in the village.

If you ever visit the Peak District and aren’t sure where to begin your walk, consider following our route. I’m sure you won’t regret it.
